60 cars left the port of Rotterdam to Dubai to participate in the Toyo Tires 24-hour motor racing of Dubai. The race returns to the 5.39km FIA-certified Dubai Autodrome track from the 11th to the 13th January 2007.
Thirty-four shipping containers were mounted on board the “Deira” carrying approximately 60 cars. Moving at speeds of 21,9 knots, the “Deira” is expected to arrive on the 29th of December 2006 at the port of Jebel Ali. The “Deira” is owned by the United Arab Shipping Company and is built to ship a load of up to 3,802 twenty feet containers. The remaining cars will be shipped from other ports around the world.
A total line-up of 80 Touring and GT cars of different brands such as Alfa Romeo, Porsche, BMW, SEAT, Renault, Honda, Ford, Subaru, Mazda among other are to participate in the race. Drivers and teams will be coming from Europe, Australia and Dubai. This will be the second time the Dubai Autodrome is hosting a race of this kind, following the tremendous success early this year, which was the first of its kind in the region.
The Toyo Tires 24-hours of Dubai will commence on Thursday the 11th of January with the free practice session at 11:30 am and a 2 hours Qualification session at 3 pm. On Friday the 12th of January the drivers will have 30 minutes warm up session before the start of the actual race at 2 pm lasting for 24 hours of thrills and adrenalin pumping. Last year more than 70 cars participated in the race that was won by Duller Motor sport.
In addition to 24 hours of thrills and adrenalin pumping, the Toyo Tires 24-hours of Dubai race weekend will feature a variety of supports races including the Lumina CSV Championship ME and the Drift Challenge. Entrance for this event will be for free!
Besides the amphitheatre and the grandstand, visitors are also allowed behind the paddock to get a first hand feel of the excitement! As in Europe and elsewhere, a 24h race is a nice day out for the whole family and Dubai Autodrome has set up plenty of entertaining programmes for every member of the family to enjoy this event.
