ALBAWABA - Moroccan authorities announced on Saturday that six migrants drowned off the coast of northern Morocco while attempting to reach Spain, as the number of migrant boats drowning accidents faces a surge in July.
According to local authorities, 54 migrants swam out to an inflatable boat off El Kallat beach near Nador on Friday, but the boat capsized in the heavy seas, killing six of the passengers.
According to officials, the other 48 migrants got it back to shore and were given first aid immediately. The Moroccan Association of Human Rights announced that all 6 victims were Moroccan.
According to the report, a second group of 40 immigrants arrived on the Spanish coast on Saturday.
High-speed inflatables, which have long been used to transport narcotics from Morocco to Europe, are now increasingly being used to convey people to Spain. In their quest for a better life within the European Union, immigrants have also used canoes, kayaks, and even jet skis.
The Moroccan navy says it rescued approximately 900 migrants, the majority of them were from Sub-Saharan Africa, between July 10 and July 17.
