ALBAWABA - At least six people have been killed in a shooting at a mosque in western Afghanistan.
According to Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Mateen Qani, on Monday night "an unknown armed person shot at civilian worshippers in a mosque" in Herat province's Guzara district.
While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, analysts believe the Islamic State's regional chapter poses the most serious security danger in Afghanistan.
"Six civilians were martyred and one civilian was injured," Qani wrote on X early Tuesday morning.
According to PressTV, citing TOLOnews, According to sources, the attack had place in Guzara District, Herat Province. The attack targeted Shia Muslims as they were praying inside the mosque.
The mosque's imam was among the casualties of the attack, which also injured several others. PressTV added that an attack similar to this one killed the same number of people, including two Shia clerics and four women, targeting a rickshaw in Herat's provincial back in December.
