ALBAWABA - Authorities in the French Riviera said Sunday that a sabotage attack led to a power cut to 45,000 people, adding that they will increase security around electricity grid sites.
According to AFP, a massive blackout disrupted the Cannes film festival's final day, and it was blamed on sabotage. The power outage continued for five hours.
A fire broke out at an electricity transformer in the western part of the city of Nice, the city's offices of the mayor and local prosecutors revealed.
"We strongly condemn the overnight attack against a Nice electricity transformer," deputy mayor Anthony Borre posted on the X platform.
"I vigorously condemn these criminal acts hitting our country," Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi said, adding: "In the coming days we are reinforcing the (security camera) network around the city's strategic electric sites."
