A report released by Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry on Monday revealed that Afghan security forces killed some 31 resistance fighters over the weekend in an army operation in the southeastern region of the country.
The military operation reportedly came in response to an attack on an Afghani army position in the province of Paktika province in Angor Ada, which injured eight soldiers, according to Reuters.
According to ministry reports, 28 of the fighters were killed during firefights on Sunday night while another three were killed early Monday in a separate incident.
It still remains unclear whether or not those killed were Taliban fighters or Al Qaeda fighters.
