A head-on collision between a bus and a truck on a road linking two cities in northern Iran left 30 people killed and a number injured, a police official said on Saturday.

"Some of the bus passengers were Basijis (volunteer forces) from Fars province (central Iran) who went to Kerman to visit a museum of the Sacred Defense," Colonel Mohammad-Javad Asna-Ashari told the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).

As to the cause of the accident, he said experts are still looking into the matter.
