Officials at Israel's health ministry said that about 2,000 ducks in southern Israel have been killed due to fears they were carrying the West Nile virus, reported Israel Wire News Agency.
The officials have explained that the virus, which is carried by mosquitoes, may have also been the cause of death of an elderly man, a resident of the center of the country, who recently died from encephalitis.
They added that there was no cause for alarm at this time - explaining the ducks were killed in an effort to prevent the virus from spreading, said the agency. It was believed that the ducks were carrying the disease and the decision was made to kill them to ensure the sickness was not spread, according to the agency - Albawaba.com
