Two Palestinians were killed on Wednesday in an attack by Israeli Air Force helicopters on two houses in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank.
Israeli military sources claimed that the two men were members of the Islamic Jihad faction, according to Haaretz and the AP.
The two, identified as Mohammed Atik and Amjid al-Atil, were natives of the villages of Burkin and Atil, respectively. Witnesses in Jenin said that they saw the bodies of the two men being removed from the buildings.
Palestinian sources in the area also reported that five Hizbullah rockets mistakenly landed near Jenin. The rockets were supposedly targeting the nearby Israeli town of Afula.
Meanwhile in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources said that the Israeli army resumed heavy artillery bombardment in the area.
According to the Bahrain News Agency, several homes in the northern towns of Beit Laheya and Abu Saifa, near Beit Hanoun, were targeted in the attack.
Israel has claimed that such areas are used by Palestinian fighters to launch Qassam rockets on southern Israeli towns. No injuries have been reported thus far as a result of the artillery fire.
