Nineteen Islamic students of various institutions of learning in Sierra Leone and Gambia arrived in Cairo to get enrolled at Al-Azhar University.
The 19 African students were awarded the scholarship as part of Egypt’s bilateral technical co-operation agreements with their countries.
According to The Daily Observer, the selection of the students was done by the Islamic Advisory committee, established by the Gambian government to administer foreign scholarship awards from the Islamic and Arabic world.
The committee, said the Banjul-based paper, met with students shortly before their departure and advised them to be law abiding and hard working and to bear in mind that they were ambassadors of their country to Egypt.
While, the students of Sierra Leone were awarded scholarships to pursue a six-year intensive course, said the Freetown-based Standard Times.
The scholarship will cover the students' air tickets, tuition fee, books, meals, medical and pocket money throughout their stay in Cairo – Albawaba.com
