Suspected Islamic guerrillas have killed 13 people in Algeria, bringing to 54 the number of people killed by rebels in the past week, official media said on Friday.

A "terrorist group" raided the village of Sobha in western Chlef province late on Thursday and killed 10 people, five of them from the same family, the official APS news agency said.

Doctors at the local hospital, about 200 km from the capital Algiers, said some of the victims, who included a 16-year-old girl, suffered wounds inflicted by metal objects.

In a separate raid, three people were killed in an attack on a post office in the Meliana district of the town of Ain Defla, 120 km southwest of Algiers.

The Algeria media call Islamic guerrillas who have been waging a bloody insurgency for the past 10 years "terrorists". (Albawaba.com)
