‘red dot’ to break out at Index in Mid East debut

International award-winning ‘red dot’ products to be displayed at premier interiors show - high quality design, functionality and aesthetics key criteria

Germany-based red dot will be showcasing the best of the best of product design from around the world for the first time in the Middle East at Index 2008. These will be hand-picked amongst the winners of the prestigious ‘red dot’ global award for high quality, outstanding design, functionality and aesthetics.

The red dot organisation judges products according to strict design criteria, and displays them at the red dot design Museums in Essen, Germany, and Singapore. In an exclusive arrangement, the top award-winning designs from red dot, which covers all industry sectors, will be unveiled for the first time in the Middle East at INDEX which takes place at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre on 3 – 7 December 2008.

“We are delighted to welcome red dot to Index and to introduce the winners of the red dot awards to the design specifiers throughout the region,” said exhibition director Kim Willis. “This is the first time that winners of the renowned red dot design award will be showcased in the Middle East and as a strategic partner, red dot will not only raise awareness of its awards programme, but it will be perceived as a benchmark for product design throughout the Arab world.”

The red dot is an internationally recognised quality label for excellent design, selected through the 'red dot design award' competition in the fields of product design, communication design and design concepts. The awards go back to 1955 and are among the most renowned design competitions worldwide. The awards recorded more than 7,000 entries from 60 countries during 2007 alone.

“I am delighted about this cooperation, and I am convinced that in dmg world media we have found the right strategic partner to offer our winners an effective ‘shop window’ to penetrate the Middle East marketplace,” said design and business expert Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design awards. “It is important for us and the red dot winners to be present here, in one of the fastest growing cities and the most strategic growth markets in the world. In addition, our involvement aims to strengthen the role of product design as an economic factor in the Arab world.”

Index is the largest interior design trade fair in the Middle East, featuring nearly 2,000 exhibitors from 56 countries. The 18th Index fair will take place from 3 – 7 December 2008 at the Dubai International Exhibition & Conference Centre. Alongside the event, the new Index Design Forum will feature a wide range of conferences, lectures and workshops, including a presentation by Prof. Dr. Peter Zec of red dot.

“Dubai is widely recognised as the design capital of the region. Featuring the prominent international red dot awards at Index is bound to further promote design as a decisive factor in the development of the regional manufacturing industry,” added Willis.

'Design on stage' at Index 2008 will feature a selection of the most outstanding products from the red dot design museum in Essen, Germany.
