‘Creations’ paves way for fashion mavericks Amber Feroz and Charini

DSF 2009 Creations has been getting good reviews for the exceptional collections being showcased at the weeklong fashion event. International and upcoming designers have mesmerized audiences at the Observatory of Burjuman with a rich tapestry of styles, colours and cuts.

On Jan 26, Bali-based designer Oka Diputra presented a stunning display of Eastern-inspired haute couture and evening wear, with stylish matching headdresses that added the perfect touch to her chic collection. Oka played with lavender, beige and red for her colour palette and showcased her trademark biased-cut technique for a stunning visual display of elegance and glamour.

Prior to Oka, fashion design students from Preston University set the stage and the mood for an evening of style with an eclectic mix of fashion and colour and a chic grunge look that was a dominant theme for the young, modern fashionistas. Gypsy-inspired dresses and colours also elicited nodding approvals from the audience – an encouraging start for our fashion ingénues.

‘Creations’ was conceived as a showcase for talented amateur fashion designers from the UAE and the region to showcase their work in Dubai alongside international fashion designers from around the world.  Next in the spotlight are India’s Amber Feroz and Sri Lanka’s Charini.

Amber Feroz is noted for his zealous fashion sense and a rebellious streak that shows in his bold and avant-garde creations. Showcasing his artistry and skills via his fashion label Doris Dulce, Amber produces two collections every year, one for spring/summer and the other for autumn/winter. This fashion maverick, whose latest collection is called “Epidemis”, also idolizes Alber Elbaz.

Joining Amber is Charini from Sri Lanka who is a graduate of the Central St Martin’s and London College of Fashion and also an alumnus of AOTS Tokyo, where she received specialist training sponsored by the government of Japan. Charini has worked for Marks and Spencer and is currently associated with Stringhopper design studio.
