‘Arab Children in Europe’ … Integration or Assimilation?

Al Jazeera Children’s Channel’s (JCC) will, on Saturday 5 April 2008, broadcast the first LIVE episode of its debate show Nadhra Ala… (a look onto…), addressing the issue of the Arab children integration in the European countries, and their adaptation with the local communities environment.
 
This special episode comes as part of JCC’s commitment towards the Arab families living in western societies, and more particularly the children – the second and third generations of immigrants. The aim is to highlight the challenges they face trying to be part of the society they live in while preserving their traits and their Arabic identity.
 
Al Jazeera Children’s Channel will air this special episode of Nadhra Ala… LIVE from the European capital: Brussels, and live links from both London and Marseille; aiming to regulate a discussion between the children immigrants from different Arab origins, with in-studio participation of Mr. Ján Figel’, the European Commissioner responsible for Education, Training, Culture, and Youth, along other guest experts in this multilayered subject.
 
This unprecedented production in the Arabic television industry, will set - for 90 minutes - focus on the diverse understanding of integration and shed light on the multiple challenges and influencing denominators: religion, language, sense of citizenship, and many others, such as the conflict of identities, nostalgia, and the misconception of integration that could occur amongst Arabs living in western societies.
