Mashreq, one of the UAE’s leading financial institutions, announced its support and commitment towards the “Dubai Cares Girls’ Education Campaign 2011” which runs throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Mashreq is providing its customers with the option of making donations to Dubai Cares through Mashreq’s award winning online banking system. The ease of process for making donations to Dubai Cares has been designed to be convenient for anyone who wishes to donate online and show support for this campaign.

Additionally, an SMS will be sent to all Mashreq customers encouraging them to donate by phone by sending an SMS with the word ‘donation’ to the number 9030 to donate AED 30.

The “Dubai Cares “Girls’ Education Campaign 2011” aims to increase awareness of the importance of girls’ education and raise funds to support its programs that empower girls in developing countries by addressing gender imbalances in primary education.

Mohammed Al Atassi, Head of Corporate Communications at Mashreq said, “We value this partnership with Dubai Cares as it is focused on a sensitive matter, which is education of young girls. It’s necessary to gather support and work towards the success of this campaign to ensure the goals and objectives are met. Mashreq’s priority is to give back to the community we serve in and support in various similar causes.”

This campaign provides the entire UAE community an ideal opportunity to help improve the lives of millions of children, particularly girls around the world.

Last year, Mashreq partnered with Dubai Cares for its “School Feeding Campaign” which was also launched in Ramadan. The campaign raised awareness of children’s lack of access to food and nutrition in developing countries and how this adversely affects their access to primary education, as well as their personal and physical development. As a result of this campaign, Dubai Cares is now providing school children in Bangladesh and the Gaza Strip with the daily nutrition and food needed to go to school.

Donations for the “Dubai Cares Girls’ Education Campaign 2011” can be made through a variety of channels. Shoppers can add AED 5 or more to their purchases at participating retailers, whereas direct contributions can be made at Dubai Cares donation boxes placed at various retail outlets, gas stations and malls, through the direct debit facility, online at www.dubaicares.ae or through SMS.
