New clashes were reported Thursday between the Yemeni army and Republican Guard which is loyal to President Ali Abdullah Saleh. The clashes took place in the province of Hadhramaut, south-east of Yemen. At least three soldiers were wounded. The firefight took place in the city of Mukalla.
A medical source at Ibn Sina hospital confirmed its staff treated three wounded troops, including two from the Republican Guard and a colonel from the army." On Tuesday, there were reports on the first clashes between the army and the Republican Guard. Two soldiers were killed in these clashes.
A senior army officer, Major General Ali Muhsin al-Ahmar, has announced he joined the protesters who call to the departure of Saleh.
