At least one Yemeni soldier died and two others were hurt in a roadside bomb explosion in southern Yemen, officials said. The troops were in a military vehicle in the city of Lawdar, located in the southern province of Abyan, Reuters reported.
The attack on Tuesday took place one day after the country opened a regional football tournament in the south. After the blast, Yemeni forces exchanged fire with armed men near the site.
Some 30,000 troops were deployed in the area in a bid to maintain calm.
The Yemeni government has said it had spent around $1bn on the football event.
