Yemenis forces have killed three militants believed to be responsible for assassinations and attacks in Sanaa earlier this month, Reuters reports.

The militants are linked to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and authorities believe they carried out a recent kidnapping attempt involving a German diplomat.

“They (special forces) targeted the infamous assassination cell and one of them was the guy responsible for shooting the German embassy vehicle and the diplomat. They resisted arrest and all three were killed,” a Yemeni official told Reuters.

It is still unclear whether these men were also linked to the killing of a Frenchman in Sanaa on Monday, according to Reuters.

Yemen, by far the poorest country on the Arabian Peninsula, faces many challenges, including the increasingly powerful AQAP.
