At least 20 people were injured in Yemen and about 200 suffered from tear-gas inhalation Thursday when anti-regime demonstrators clashed with loyalists, backed by police forces, AFP reported. In Taez, at least 15 people were hurt in clashes with police and supporters of the ruling General People's Congress (GPC) party.
Supporters of President Ali Abdullah Saleh attacked thousands of students who took to the streets calling to topple him using rocks and batons, witnesses said.
In Sanaa, five protesters were hurt in an overnight attack by masked men on a sit-in calling for the fall of the regime, witnesses and activists said Thursday.
Meanwhile, a security official on Thursday said that three members of al-Qaeda and three Yemeni soldiers were killed in clashes in the province of Marib, east of the capital Sanaa. The official said that a group of al-Qaeda gunmen was riding two cars and attacked a security post in in Marib region. They clashed with security men, killing two soldiers. Later, one of the wounded soldiers died of his wounds.
