According to police sources and witnesses an American unmanned spy drone crashed near the city Lauder in South Yemen, which is a stronghold of al-Qaeda. The reports on Tuesday indicated that al Qaeda activists succeeded in seizing the aircraft wreckage.
A police source was quoted as saying "the drone believed to be an American monitored the movements of al-Qaeda fighters" who are present in abundance in the city. The source added that the plane of Predator type is used in surveillance operations and crashed in the village of Jehin, near Lauder.
A residents of the village said he heard the sound of a plane crash near his house early Tuesday.
Other witnesses said that police came to the scene and took the wreckage of the plane, but later al Qaeda operatives were able to seize the wreckage by force.
