The United Arab Emirates has voiced concern over the release in Germany of Israeli Mossad agent Uri Brodsky, arrested in connection with the fraudulent use of a German passport to one of the killers of senior Hamas leader in Dubai earlier this year. In a statement issued by the UAE Foreign Ministry on Saturday, the Assistant Minister for Legal Affairs, Dr. Abdurahim Al Awadhi expressed concern that Brodsky has been released on bail and granted the freedom to return to Israel while the case against him continues.
"The UAE seeks assurances that Brodsky is in no way connected with the murder of Mahmoud Al Mabhouh in Dubai in January of this year," said Dr Awadhi in his statement, cited by WAM.
The UAE Foreign Ministry on Saturday "sought clarification" from the German government on the Brodsky case. "As this may relate to a serious crime committed in Dubai, the UAE expects full and close cooperation from the German authorities and will continue to pursue the matter through diplomatic channels," the statement said.
