Turkey to host next round of Iran nuclear talks

The current round of nuclear negotiations between the powers and Tehran ended on Tuesday in Geneva. It will to be resumed in January 2011 in the city of Istanbul, Turkey.

The Commissioner of Foreign Affairs of the European Union said at a news conference at the conclusion of the talks: "We have agreed with Iran to continue talks at the end of January in Istanbul, and we plan to discuss practical ideas and ways of cooperation to address our concerns on the major nuclear problem."

Catherine Ashton stated that the Geneva talks were "detailed and substantial."

For his part, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said talks could bear fruit in case of lifting the sanctions on his country.
