Informed sources in Tunis revealed late Sunday night that the clashes in the vicinity of Carthage Palace between the army and the Presidential Guard ended. Army units took control of the area, the reports said.
The violent clashes erupted earlier on Sunday between the Tunisian army and presidential guard, amid reports that the army asked for massive military reinforcements. At least two were reported dead.
The army has reportedly attacked the presidential palace, where supporters of the ousted president Ben Ali have been holed up. Remnants of the presidential guard have taken refuge in the palace.
