The popular unrest in Tunisia continues. On Monday, police forces fired tear gas at a rally outside the Tunisian prime minister's office. Some of the hundreds of protesters threw stones, charged against police lines and smashed up a police vehicle near the government quarter in the centre of the capital.
Despite the wish of the interim government to return to normal life, many primary schools remained shut after teachers called an "unlimited" strike. However, teenagers in their final year of school returned to classes as expected.
The General Union of Tunisian Workers (UGTT), which called the strike, has refused to recognize the new government because it keeps in place leading figures from the ousted regime including Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi. The organizers said they would continue their sit-in until all these ministers resign.
