Syrian forces have entered the southern town of Tafas near the city of Deraa, Reuters reported. Residents said they heard gunfire and that army and security forces broke into houses to arrest youths.
Meanwhile, dismissing claims of mass killing by the security forces, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, said that any error committed by some elements of the security forces, was an "individual", which indicates the ethics of the person and the level of his education. The Syrian leader stressed that there is a plan to raise the education level of the members of the security forces.
He made these comments during his meeting with a group of young men and women representing different spectrums of the Syrian society. He promised to address the problem of punishing some students who protested at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Damascus. A decision was taken to dismiss them from the university. Assad stressed that the executive order of the law which allows peaceful protests will be issued in the next two days.
In response to a question on the latest developments in the country, the Syrian President said that the situation would gradually calm.
