A security source close to Egypt's Military Council said late Tuesday he will not be surprised if at any moment there is an announcement delivered about the death of former President Hosni Mubarak. "His health is deteriorating drastically, and he refuses to receive the necessary treatment," the source was quoted as saying.

He revealed that attempts are being made to transfer Mubarak for treatment abroad, but added: "Mubarak refuses to respond." He asked those around him to let him die in his country and "I think it's only a matter of time," the source added. "It is unfortunate to ends up this way," he added.

However, another source speaking to Reuters, said Mubarak is taking telephone calls in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. "He's fine," the source said. "He is at his residence in Sharm el-Sheikh with his family. He is receiving telephone calls. I spoke to him at 3 o'clock (1300 GMT) this afternoon," the source added

Speculation about Mubarak's health has swirled since he was forced to resign on Friday.
