Egypt's presidential hopeful Abdel Fattah Al Sisi told reporters this week that there will be no Muslim Brotherhood movement in the country if he becomes the head of state, according to Agence France Presse.
In his first television interview since declaring his bid for the presidency, the ex-army chief emphasized that the banned Brotherhood was "finished" in Egypt and would not be making a comeback under his leadership.
"I did not finish it, you Egyptians finished it," he said.
Hundreds of Brotherhood supporters have been arrested since the Egyptian army under Sisi's leadership ousted Brotherhood leader and former president Mohammed Morsi in July 2014, and more than 1,400 pro-Morsi supporters have been killed.
Egypt's interim government following Morsi's ouster officially banned the Brotherhood and listed it as a terrorist organization in late 2013.
