Scores of protesters were hurt, some seriously, Sunday during a clash with Moroccan security forces. The demonstrators tried to storm the headquarters of a left-wing party in Casablanca, witnesses and reporters said.
According to AFP, the protesters tried to find refuge in the offices of the Unified Socialist Party (PSU) after the security forces broke up a peaceful rally calling for political reforms.
Witnesses and reporters saw dozens of people who had been wounded, some seriously. The assault was ordered by the governor of Casablanca. Beforehand, police had used megaphones to call on the crowd to leave the PSU headquarters and stop shouting slogans.
