Qatar Airways on Sunday confirmed that a recent courier consignment was carried aboard one of its aircraft from Sana'a to Dubai via Doha International Airport. The carrier stated that "as per Chicago Convention, it is not the responsibility of the country in which the cargo transits to x-ray or inspect the cargo. This responsibility belongs to the country from where the consignment originates."

Furthermore, it added the explosives discovered were of a "sophisticated nature" whereby they could not be detected by x-ray screening or trained sniffer dogs. The explosives were only discovered after an intelligence tip off.

Al Qaeda bomb maker Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri, 28, who is hiding in Yemen, is linked to that package and another one found on a second airplane in the United Kingdom on Friday, a US federal official told CNN Sunday.  The two devices found Friday look like they were put together by the same bomber who designed last year's Christmas Day underwear bomb, a U.S. government official told CNN.
