Official Palestinian sources said on Wednesday that the Palestinian Authority's security forces have arrested a cell affiliated with Hamas, which was planning to assassinate the governor of Nablus, Major General Bakri Jibrin. Quoted by the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, sources in the governorate of Nablus, located at the northern West Bank, conveyed the plan aimed to assassinate al-Bakri.

The sources said: "There is a group belonging to Hamas which is active in the northern West Bank and aimed at killing Bakri". "It's a cell based in Nablus, which is one of the areas that the influence of Hamas is high unlike other cities in the West Bank," they added.

The sources claimed that the security services have seized a car bomb which was intended for use in the assassination of al-Bakri. In addition, security forces seized weapons and funds for this purpose, noting that the members of the cell had been in contact with leaders of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
