American President Barack Obama on Sunday stated Iraq was taking too long to form a government, and this was a source of frustration. "The government is taking way too long to get formed, and that is a source of frustration to us and to the Iraqi people," the U.S. leader told students in Mumbai, according to Reuters.
Meanwhile, a senior American commander noted on Saturday that Al-Qaeda's ability to infiltrate foreign fighters into Iraq had been severely restricted, but that it was still a threat and would remain so. According to AFP, Brigadier General Jeffrey Buchanan conveyed that last week's deadly attack in Baghdad targeting Christians and blasts in Shiite neighbourhoods across the capital indicated that Al-Qaeda remained deadly.
The attacks "demonstrate that Al-Qaeda remains determined and dangerous," said Buchanan. According to him, U.S. and Iraqi forces had "degraded" Al-Qaeda's ability to plan and coordinate attacks, raise finance and recruit fighters inside Iraq.
