Sufian Alao, Syria's Oil and Mineral Resources Minister said that his country's imports of gas from Egypt had ceased as of yesterday. This came following the blast, which targeted the Egyptian gas pipeline which extends to several countries in the region, including Syria. The rehabilitation of the pipeline should take about a week.
Alao conveyed that Syrian imports of Egyptian gas amounts to 2.5 million meters per day up, noting that this amount constitutes 7% of domestic consumption. About the effect on local electricity sector, Alao said: "The power would not be affected by this event at all because of the gas supply to the power plants can be immediately replaced by a fuel."
He stated that the price of Egyptian gas unit sold to Syria and is US$ 3.12.
