At least 92 people were killed and 2000 others wounded since the beginning of the unprecedented demonstrations in Egypt. According to medical and security sources, 62 people were killed Friday, including 35 in Cairo, while 23 were killed in Saturday, including 12 in Beni Suef, three in Cairo, three in Rafah, and five in Ismailia. Seven people were killed during the first three days of demonstrations.
Meanwhile, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak named Civil Aviation Minister Ahmed Mohamed Shafiq as the next prime minister. Shafiq is a close aide to President Mubarak and served as the commander of the Egyptian air-force before joining the Egyptian government in 2002.
Shafiq was born in Cairo in 1941. He graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1961. He also served as the military attaché at the Egyptian Embassy in Italy from 1984 to 1986.
