A lawyer defending the deposed Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Monday confirmed that his client is suffering from cancer, citing a medical report to assess the eligibility of Mubarak to attend his trial.
The lawyer Farid El-Deeb said that Mubarak was suffering from cancer, but he did not explain the type of cancer or provide any other details.
The 83 year old Mubarak underwent in March 2010 a surgery in the German city of Heidelberg to remove his gallbladder.
Mubarak has been hospitalized in a Sharm el-Sheikh hospital following reports on heart problems suffered during the preliminary stages of his interrogation, Mubarak is scheduled to appear before the judges on the 3rd of August . He is accused of ordering the killing of protesters, corruption and abuse of power.
