Three near-simultaneous car blasts killed at least eight people in the northern city of Kirkuk on Wednesday. Dozens of others were hurt in the triple explosions at around 10:25 am in the west of the city.
According to Kirkuk province police chief Major General Jamal Taher Bakr, the three blasts killed eight people and left 104 others injured. According to AFP, Sadiq Omar Rasul, the head of the province's health department, earlier put the toll at eight killed and 68 injured.
The police chief conveyed the three bombings included a car bomb driven by a suicide attacker which struck the office of the Kurdish internal security. The second car bomb rocked a police patrol in the same west Kirkuk quarter as the first, while a third vehicle packed with explosives went off nearby targeting the convoy of a senior police officer.
Police Major Salam Zangana added that a woman, a child and two policemen were among the dead.
Meanwhile, Al Qaeda's Iraq-based arm urged Egyptians to free all prisoners from the jails, issuing an appeal for Jihad. The Islamic State of Iraq blasted the Egyptian government for failing to implement strict Islamic law, and said it was better for Muslims to die fighting their government rather than live under its rule.
