Israel's foreign minister on Tuesday callied for "a long-term intermediate agreement" with the Palestinians and land swaps. Avigdor Liberman's appeal at the U.N. General Assembly's annual ministerial meeting was at odds with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's stance, which aims to reach a final peace deal with the Palestinians within one year.
Liberman said the solution must be "two-staged" because the "emotional problems" between Israelis and Palestinians can't be resolved until a new generation is raised that has mutual trust. During Liberman's speech, two Palestinian diplomats got up and walked out of the assembly chamber, the AP reported.
