The secretary general of a Palestinian group in Gaza, the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), was killed Friday in an Israeli airstrike. In addition a recently released detainee, who was the son in law of this leader, was also killed. "Our Secretary General, Zuhair al-Qaissi, was one of two Palestinians killed in Israeli raid," said the PRC in a statement.

The group's armed wing, the Salaheddin Brigades, threatened Israel with a massive response.

The Israeli army confirmed in a statement that an Israeli aircraft had targeted two members of the "terrorist organization," killing leader Zuhair al- Qaissi and Mahmoud Hanani. It added the group was preparing a "terrorist attack" to be carried out via Sinai in the coming days.

Earlier, Palestinian medical sources reported two Palestinians killed and a third injured in an air strike on a civilian car west of Gaza City.

Mahmoud Hanani was one of 1,027 Palestinian prisoners released by Israel in exchange for the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, in October 2011.
