The final statement of the 31st summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday urged Iran not to interfere in the internal affairs of the member states. It also expressed regret for the lack of response by Iran to resolve peacefully the crisis of the three UAE islands, occupied by Iran in the 1970s.
The six states renewed their support for the Saudi call to establish an international center to combat terrorism.
The closing session of the summit was presided over by the United Arab Emirates president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It included a speech by the Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, which was delivered by the Secretary-General of the Council.
During the summit, the Chairman of the Saudi delegation, the Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz, said his country would host the next summit.
On his part, the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah called Iran during his speech to enter a dialogue on its nuclear program and to abide by the principles of international legitimacy to reach a peaceful settlement of this file.
