The monthly death toll from violence in Iraq last month was the lowest since November 2009, with a total of 185 people killed, despite the Baghdad church attack, government figures showed on Monday. The toll, published by the health, interior and defense ministries, indicated 120 civilians, 45 police and 20 soldiers were killed.
A total of 363 civilians were injured in October attacks, accounting for 202 people along with 86 policemen and 75 soldiers. 50 gunmen were killed and 250 arrested, the ministries said in a statement, cited by AFP.
The last day of the month was the deadliest with at least 37 Christians killed in the Baghdad cathedral. Seven members of Iraq's security forces also died.
In September, violence claimed the lives of 273 Iraqis, among them 185 civilians, according to government figures.
