U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Monday vowed to push Israel and the Palestinian Authority to move quickly toward resolving the core issues required to establish an independent Palestinian state. The second round of direct Middle East peace talks starts Tuesday in Egypt.

According to WSJ, Clinton stated she would press Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to extend a partial moratorium on construction in the West Bank settlemnts beyond its Sept. 26 expiration date. She also stressed the need to reach agreement rapidly on the future borders.

"I can only say this: There is no prospect for success absent direct negotiations," Clinton told reporters Monday. "No negotiations. No security. No state."
