Press reports on Friday said at least seven people were killed and others wounded during the demonstrations held in several cities in Iraq, in what organizers dubbed the "Day Of Rage ". The protests were held to demand better public services, fight against corruption and to address the unemployment crisis.
According to initial reports, five people died and 17 were injured in the demonstration held in the northern city of Mosul. Iraqi security forces opened fire after protesters burned government vehicles and threw stones at the governorate building.
In Hawija region, southwest of Kirkuk, a policeman was killed and others were wounded in clashes after the protest, while protesters set fire to the headquarters of the municipal council.
According to eyewitnesses in al-Anbar province, in western Iraq, a number of demonstrators were injured, including a press photographer after they were shot by security forces in front of the governorate building. The witnesses said that a number of demonstrators threw stones at the building of Anbar province, prompting security forces to fire on them and hit four of them, including a press photographer.
