Palestinian Authority chief Mahmud Abbas hinted he opts to step down if current peace negotiations fail, a spokesman for the Palestinian National Council (PNC) said Thursday. According to Reuters, the Palestinian leader said earlier this week during a PNC meeting that "I may be sitting on this (presidency) chair only for a nother week," according to Khalid Mismar.
Meanwhile, a senior Palestinian official said on Thursday he saw no hope of a serious peace process with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. "There will be no serious political process while Netanyahu's government pursues settlements," Abbas's aide Yasser Abed Rabbo told Voice of Palestine radio. "I can go further still and say that there will be no serious political process with Netanyahu's government."
