Zakia Belkhiri gained fame earlier this month for taking selfies at anti-Islam protests in Antwerp, Belgium. Amidst signs reading “no headscarves” and “no mosques,” the 22 year-old posted selfies while holding up the peace sign in front of the protesters. Her selfies, as well as pictures of her taken by photographer Jurgen Augusteyns, subsequently went viral.
Now, Belkhiri being accused of anti-semitism. On May 22nd, the Israeli left-wing news outlet Haaretz reported on troubling words the young social media star allegedly wrote on social media. Haaretz cites a tweet sent from her Twitter account reading “Hitler didn't kill all the Jews, he left some. So we know why he was killing them” from November 2012. Haaretz further claimed she posted “I hate them (Jews) so much” on Facebook in March 2014.
Belkhiri’s Twitter does not exist anymore, and she does not appear to have commented yet in response to the aforementioned reports.
