Video of another nearly-drowned Syrian baby reminds us Europe's refugee crisis is still here

It's been almost two month since the photo of 3-year-old Aylan Kurdi's body on Turkish shores, but the mounting refugee crisis it represents is far from over. The world was reminded of that all over again this weekend, when a video surfaced of Turkish fishermen rescuing another Syrian toddler refugee from the Aegean Sea. 

Turkey's Hurriyet Daily News reports a boat carrying some 37 asylum seekers capzied off their coasts on Oct. 21. Among them was 18-month-old Muhammad Hasan, who is seen being pulled frantically from the water by one of the fishermen in the video. He's alive and recovering in a Turkish hospital, according to the news outlet, along with 15 others rescued by the fishermen.

It's only a few minutes long, but the footage is harrowing. It shoots back and forth from a small fishing boat and the screaming fishman  to what looks like the capsized remains of another vessel.

"People fell into the sea!" one fisherman calls out, then: "Oh my god, there's a baby too."

The video comes just before renewed talks in the EU on how to cope with the influx of refugees from war-torn countries across the Middle East and elsewhere. Over 680,000 have crossed into Europe by sea this year, while at least 3,000 have died trying. 

So far, European leaders have failed to come up with an agreement. That's what sparked Sunday's mini-summit, where leaders from Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia will meet in Brussels to try and divise an action plan. 

In any case, videos like these remind us behind the blinding numbers, there's a whole lot of real stories.
