Syrian Islamist group Jaysh al-Islam claims its fighters shot down an aircraft believed to be a Russian warplane outside Damascus Monday, according to opposition0aligned Arabic media.
Videos surfaced on social media purporting to show the moment the jet began falling in capital's suburb city of eastern Ghouta, followed by what some activists say is the pilot ejecting by parachute.
Now Jaysh al-Islam says they've captured what they claim is a Russian pilot, though neither that nor the shootdown has been confirmed.
Meanwhile, social media is firing up with multiple accounts about the jet, who it belongs to and why it fell, reminding us — yet again — nothing is ever as simple as it seems in Syria.
