Security at the Hajj has not been great as of late, including last year’s crane collapse which killed over 100. But fear not, the Saudis have it under control. The Mecca region (where Hajj is held) has been tweeting images of Saudi security forces preparing for the pilgrimage in rather creative ways via its Twitter account.
An article by CNN Arabic details the intense preparations. These include jumping over fellow soldiers, wild marches with guns in hand, and speeding police cars that look like Fast and the Furious.
The @makkahregion Twitter account is using the hashtag #the_hajj_of_worship_behavior_is_civilized with the videos, attempting to paint a picture of a safe, secure, and holy Hajj this year, CNN Arabic notes.
The Hajj has been marred by controversy before it has eveb started this year, particularly pertaining to the Saudi-Iranian rivalry. Saudi Arabia banned Iranians coming from Iran from participating in this year’s Hajj. But those non-Iranian pilgrims may be comforted by Saudi Arabia’s confidence in security this year.
