An Australian university got a reminder of the rampant Islamophobia spreading through the world recently, when a student in Australia came across a pig's head in the bathroom of his university.
On Sunday afternoon, Vice reports University of Western Australia PhD candidate Majdi Fal arrived in the bathroom of the university mosque to prepare for his afternoon prayers, when he was stopped by a strange sight—a bloody pig's head lying at the base of the traditional Turkish floor toilets often used in mosques.
The news went global when he posted the photo on his Facebook page. The post has been deleted, but alongside the photo, Fal said the following: "I was getting ready to do my regular prayers at UWA Mosque. As soon as I opened the toilet's door, I found a dead pig's head inside. The toilet is a traditional Turkish toilet used mostly by Muslims for their ablution before performing their prayers. Needless to say, if this happened at a university, then THINGS ARE ESCALATING."
After the incident, the University released the following statement on their Facebook page.
Unfortunately, this isn't the first case of Islamophobia—or pig heads, for that matter—that's been brought to light in recent weeks. Last week, a UK man garnered attention after entering a butcher store and asking for as many pig parts as possible, apparently in anticipation of attacking mosques with them. Now with Donald Trump at the forefront in the US, that'll probably only be getting more frequent.
