An Israeli coffee company is being sued by Nespresso after it used a George Clooney lookalike in an advert. The Israeli coffee company, Espresso Club, used a Clooney doppelganger in an advert which even had a disclaimer saying that the man “is not George Clooney.”
Clooney is the official face of Nespresso.
However Nespresso Israel did not see the humor in the ad, demanding $50,000 in damages and for the ad to be taken down to “prevent customers from being misled.”
Espresso Club said that jokingly using the Clooney character was meant to target customers looking for a more “informal” coffee experience.
The ad shows the silver-haired lookalike leaving a store, apparently having just bought a new espresso machine. The voiceover states that, “There’s nothing like a new espresso machine,” however is interrupted by someone telling the Clooney lookalike to stop talking to himself.
The voice over also bears a striking resemblance to Clooney’s voice in Nespresso ads.
To be fair, the two men do look very similar. See some screenshots below, via YouTube.
