Michelle Obama's Instagram post about Yemeni student goes viral

On Saturday, Michelle Obama gave special praise to a female Yemeni Muslim student who is the first person from her family to get a college degree. 

The literature student, Orruba Almansouri, got the second-highest grades of anyone in the 2016 graduating class at City College Of New York in Manhattan. 

The First Lady's Instagram post quickly went viral:

Orruba was born and raised in Yemen, stepping foot in New York for her first day of high school in 2006. It was here she discovered her passion for writing and literature and the desire to pursue a college degree. Orubba broke her family tradition by becoming a first generation college student. Today, she walks across the graduation stage as the salutatorian of the @CCNYCityCollege Class of 2016. #ReachHigher

Almansouri, a Yemeni immigrant to the US, gave the salutatory address at the City College graduation ceremony on Friday. 

She said no women in her family had ever gone to college and that she had to debate her father for the right to go herself, ABC News reported. 

"I fought to be allowed to pursue an education, for the right to be here," Almansouri said. 

Yemeni Instagram users reacted gleefully to Obama's post. 

User @idreesmutahr, for example, wrote: "What did Laura Bush ever do for us. This is amazing ❤️"
