Twitter mourns the passing of legendary Egyptian actor Mahmoud Abdel Aziz

Heartbroken fans of Egyptian cinema have taken to social media today to express their sadness over the death of renowned actor Mahmoud Abdel Aziz at the age of 70. Abdel Aziz, the star of eighties films El Aar (The Shame) and El Keef (Addiction) had been suffering from a long illness.

Twitter has witnessed an outpouring of grief from fans this morning, with #MahmoudAbdelAziz trending as his funeral takes place. Many referred to him as a “wizard” and an “artist”: 

Goodbye, you wizard, #MahmoudAbdelAziz

A thousand blessings upon you, you wizard. #MahmoudAbdelAziz

May you rest in peace always you innovative and wonderful artist. This is the worst news for me among the deaths of artists. God bless his soul and forgive him.

Many suggested that there were few in Egyptian cinema who could compare to his acting abilities:

It is clear that the legendary singer will be missed by all.
