Although Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi announced Fallujah was retaken from Daesh (ISIS) by the Iraqi army on June 17, today it was declared that the city is fully free of Daesh. The news follows a month-long campaign by the Iraqi army and the Popular Mobilization Units that saw intense fighting throughout the month of June. With news that Daesh is at least for now completely gone from Fallujah, Iraqis are celebrating on Twitter, and posting images that give glimpses into life under Daesh.
Many prominent Iraqi tweeters celebrated the move, viewing it as a significant blow to Daesh’s position in the country.

The victory is an important one for the Iraqi army, although Daesh still controls large swaths of the country-particularly in the west and north-and anti-government agitations continue in Baghdad.
